Instructor Certification Requirements
All instructors who teach occupational specific technical courses are required to obtain and maintain a Missouri Vocational Teacher Certificate. It is the responsibility of all occupational specific technical instructors to know the requirements for certification. Instructions for obtaining and renewing certificates are available from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE).
The instructor will start the background check process at http://www.machs.mo.gov. There is a fee for which the employee will be reimbursed by submitting an expense report to Human Resources. See the following instructions:
The instructor will also apply for a Career (Vocational) Temporary Authorization Certificate on the DESE website at http://www.dese.mo.gov/educator-quality/certification. DESE requires the instructor complete two certification classes each year before the renewal application is due. Certification classes are available at the University of Central Missouri, University of Phoenix, and others. The employee will be reimbursed for the costs upon completion of the class with a grade of C or better. An expense report with a receipt and grade documentation attached must be submitted.
