Regalia. Please see the bookstore to order your regalia by the due date. If you have your own regalia and would like to participate in the commencement ceremonies, please let Nikky Nilges know by that same due date. Please follow the guidelines below for what to wear with your regalia.

  • Men: Dark slacks (No shorts or jeans) and dark dress shoes (No work boots or shoes, tennis shoes, flip-flops, or sandals)
  • Women: Dark slacks or skirt (No shorts or jeans) and dark dress shoes / low heels recommended (No work boots or shoes, tennis shoes, flip-flops, or casual sandals)


Graduation Practice. The day before graduation is typically the day of practicing the commencement ceremony. Because we only have commencement once each year and it changes every year, it’s important that everyone who is dressing and participating attend practice at 1:30 p.m. so that the ceremony goes smoothly.

Graduation Practice Typical Agenda:

12:00 p.m. - 12:30 p.m. Award ceremony in the Mainstream Cafe

12:30 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. Complimentary lunch for employees in the Mainstream Cafe

1:01 p.m. Ringing of the Bell

1:02 pm - 1:30 pm Pick up your commencement regalia in the bookstore

1:30 pm - 2:30 pm Commencement practice in the Activity Center


Processional Order:

  • Grand Marshal - goes on to stage alone to begin commencement; calls out names.
  • President's Party - walks slowly to stage, remains standing
  • Assistant Marshals walk slowly with their students following; stop and stand next to the row where students need to enter. Once all students have entered the assistant marshal goes to the front row on the floor of the gym. Stay standing until after the national anthem.
  • Assistant Marshals will sit in every other seat in the front row.
  • Staff - stay standing until after the national anthem
  • National Anthem
  • Diploma Process:
  • Announcer calls names
  • President gives diplomas; Registrar hands them to him
  • Alumni Service hand out alumni pins at bottom of stairs
  • General education faculty stand by door, if they want to
  • Major field stand by door as their students go up
  • If child of employee gets degree, parent may go to the stage to get photo taken
  • Recessional:
  • President's party
  • Assistant Marshals
  • Employees
  • All above form a line for students to walk through - clapping (no shaking hands or giving hugs as this will hold up the line for exit)
  • Students

7:30 a.m. Report to the Osage County Community Center to assist graduates for morning commencement ceremony

9:00 a.m. Morning commencement ceremony begins

After commencement drop off your regalia in the Osage County Community Center

10:15 a.m. Brunch at Main Stream Cafe for all employees, board members, commencement speaker, and guests*

11:00 a.m. Report to the Osage County Community Center to assist graduates for the 12:00 p.m. commencement ceremony

12:00 p.m. commencement ceremony begins

After commencement drop off your regalia in the Osage County Community Center

1:15 p.m. Snacks at Main Stream Cafe for all employees, board members, commencement speaker, and guest*

2:00 p.m. Report to the Osage County Community Center to assist graduates for the 3:00 p.m. commencement ceremony

3:00 p.m. Commencement Ceremony begins

Commencement Ceremony Overview. Our commencement ceremony is a very special event for our students. Your participation greatly contributes to the success of the ceremony and offers a wonderful opportunity to celebrate with our students and families. Thank you for participating.

  • The faculty senate president serves as the Marshal and announces the entrance of ceremony participants.
  • The department chairs and lead instructors serve as Assistant Marshals.
  • The faculty senate president, all department chairs and lead instructors wear a medallion.
  • All faculty, department chairs, lead instructors and staff dressed in regalia have seats on the gym floor and participate in the commencement ceremony.
  • All participating general education and technical faculty will line up in front of the stairs that lead to the stage to congratulate graduating students as they wait to walk up the stairs. This allows all participating faculty, not just department chairs, to interact with students during the ceremony.
  • General education department chairs will sit with the assistant marshals in the front rows of the gym floor.
  • In addition, during the recessional, all participating faculty and staff will form lines on each side of the exiting graduates to congratulate them as they leave the gym.
